KEEP CALM...

In 1939, the British government designed a propaganda poster with the phrase 'Keep Calm and Carry On' during the beginning of the Second World War, intended to raise the morale of the British public in the event of invasion
(wartimeposters.co.uk, 04.30.2012)While around 2.5 million posters were printed, it only saw limited distribution.  It was the third in a series of posters.  The designer of the poster is unknown. In 2000, a copy of the poster was rediscovered in a book shop in Northumberland, England and since the copyright for artistic works issued by the government expires 50 years after being issued, the poster became public domain (Bagehot (9 October 2010) "Keep Calm, But Don't Carry On" The Economist: 42). There are only two known surviving examples of the poster outside government archive.
